Every month, children and families through our Low Vision Services come together for socialization events. Recently, our families were invited to meet in Webster at the Never Say Never Stables for a Li’l Farm Party. There, they met some equestrian enthusiasts, a meandering chicken, some voracious goats, a pair of raucous ducks, and two gentle ponies.
During the event, everyone was encouraged to play outdoor games like horseshoes, bean bag toss, and ring toss. The children got to hand feed the goats, pet Truffles (the criminally soft bunny), and Rocky: the "just-let-me chew-grass" pony. Most of the participants chose to get a guided pony ride on Madeline, a beautiful black pony who was patient and easy going.
The parents and children played on the playground equipment, ate snacks, and socialized. These events are a great way for children with barriers to independence to come together to bond, learn, and navigate.
The group was encouraged to consider registering for the November 13th event: meeting the birds of prey at the Wild Wings animal sanctuary at Mendon Ponds Park and feeding the chickadees on the Bird Song Trail.
